Seasonal Fire

The late afternoon sun is diffuse, dappling the orange leaves.  The tree is aflame.

the chill of a bitter wind
my coat seems too thin
i hug myself and pretend i'm warm

Day Two: There was a sense of hurry...

There was a sense of hurry in the supermarket this evening.  As distracted shoppers shopped, carts bumped against carts.  Pieces of cardboard fell from a half-empty display.  I steered clear, and obeyed the rules of the aisle.

Day One: There is a slight chill...

There is a slight chill in the house:  the temperature outside must have dropped.  One lamp is lit in here.  It casts a rosy glow across the wall and ceiling, and somehow warms me on the inside.

Welcome 2013 and the Mindful Writing Challenge

Each day, during the month of January, I will be writing "small stones" as part of what is now called:  The Mindful Writing Challenge.  I am rusty and feel like I don't know how to begin, and so I'm going to take a cup of tea, along with the book Pay Attention: A River of Stones (see link below) to refresh myself before writing my first "small stone"of the year.  See you in a bit!
